Amy LaFountain is guided by a simple belief: people deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, and compassion. Her approach to therapy begins with the person rather than the problem that brought them through the door. She believes meaningful change grows from genuine human connection and from creating a space where people feel heard, understood, and safe enough to explore what is happening in their lives without judgment.
Amy takes a holistic, whole-person approach to therapeutic work. She recognizes that emotional well-being does not exist in isolation, and that our relationships, environments, physical well-being, experiences, identities, and the systems around us all influence how we move through the world. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms or a diagnosis, Amy is interested in understanding the larger story: what someone has experienced, what matters to them, what may be getting in the way, and what they want their life to look and feel like moving forward.
At the heart of Amy’s work is connection. Her style is warm, curious, collaborative, and grounded in respect for each person’s self-determination. Rather than beginning with a particular approach or technique, Amy begins by listening. She believes understanding who someone is, what matters to them, and what they need creates the foundation for meaningful therapeutic work.
Amy is particularly drawn to working with adults navigating change, life transitions, identity, relationships, and questions of meaning and purpose. She enjoys working with people who may feel stuck, disconnected, overwhelmed, or uncertain about what comes next, and helping them better understand themselves, reconnect with what matters to them, and move toward a life that feels more balanced and meaningful.
Amy believes therapy can be a place not only to work through what is difficult, but also to reconnect with strengths, develop greater balance, understand ourselves more deeply, and consider what comes next. She believes meaningful change is often built gradually, through small, intentional steps that become part of how we move through our everyday lives.
Amy brings more than twenty years of experience in human services to her therapeutic work, spanning direct service, counseling, crisis response, program development, and executive leadership in the nonprofit sector. Her work has brought her alongside people navigating mental health challenges, substance use, trauma, homelessness, crisis, and complex systems.
Across these very different roles and experiences, one thing has remained constant: a belief that people are far more complex than any diagnosis, circumstance, or chapter of their lives. Amy holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Social Work and is a New York State Licensed Master Social Worker and Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor.
Amy also has a strong interest in the connection between emotional and physical well-being and in practices that support nervous system regulation, balance, and a greater sense of connection. As a Reiki practitioner with an ongoing interest in energy healing and other holistic wellness modalities, she brings a broader curiosity about the many ways people experience healing. These interests deepen her whole-person perspective and inform the holistic, integrative approach she brings to her therapeutic work.

Hope is seeing a glimmer of light, even when you feel surrounded by darkness. It is the courage to take one more step, even when you feel weighed down. Finding hope is difficult and it is often considered life’s biggest question. Without it, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and anxious; however, when you choose yourself, you are choosing hope. Consider counseling as the first step in your journey.
Kristina’s approach to counseling is integrative, meaning that she utilizes a variety of methods to fit your needs. She firmly believes that you are the expert of your own experience, and that sharing your experiences can sometimes be painful. Kristina strives to create a safe space for you to process these events and grow into your best possible self.
A phrase we hear often is “progress, not perfection.” The truth is that it’s easy to become caught up in a “quick fix”; however, the road to hope can take time and it can be filled with many ups and downs. As you get to know one Kristina, and she gets to know you, you will find that your time spent together fosters not only a hopeful future, but a path toward acceptance and growth. You can find comfort in knowing that, through patience and understanding, Kristina will be next to you as you find hope, build resilience, and achieve your therapeutic goals.
